Materials and Software

Manga Materials and Software

Hello guys,
Today I will show what kind of materials that I am going to use for my manga and what type of software I might use for inking my characters.  After that, I will show you guys how manga is read so you can read mine when I finish it!

The Software I am Using:

Paint Tool Sai's Logo

You can see the software on my desktop

I got Paint Tool Sai is the name of the program that I am going to use for inking my sketched character designs on paper since I think it is easier than inking traditionally although my manga will be done traditionally then rendered and fixed digitally. I am going to scan my character designs using a scanner then I will open Paint Tool Sai and ink them there.  I am still really new to this program so I am still not experienced enough using it.

Adding to that, the tool that I am going to use to ink my character designs is the Wacom tablet. I am going to draw on the wacom tablet using the Paint tool Sai software.  I managed to find a video that uses both the Wacom tablet and the Paint Tool; what is interesting that in the video she was drawing in manga style which inspired me more to actually draw my characters using these.

Materials for Manga:

Uni Pigment pens

And......

Sakura Pigma pens

What is annoying in using pigma ink pens is that when I finish inking I should erase the pencil lines which are under the ink that I drew on the pencil sketches so when I erase the ink's quality goes down.  Moreover, I will end up inking my characters in the manga page again since the ink lines are not rich enough to the viewer's eyes including myself.

Simple Ruler

Deleter Paper

This will be my first time using Deleter paper so many things could go wrong including drawing panel scenes on the wrong side of the paper, messing up the measurements of the paper and cutting the wrong side of the paper after finishing the page.  To solve this solution, I watched a whole video on how to use this paper and learned how to use it properly which will make me finish my major project less time consuming.

Copic Markers

I am going to use the Copic Markers to color the cover page of my manga.  Although my pigma pens are water, marker and dust proof they tend to blend sometimes with the Copics which might ruin the drawing.  I will do my best to prevent that from happening.

In conclusion, So these are the materials that I am going use to make my manga since those are what most Manga artists use to draw and make their manga.

  1. This is informative, but you need to add some commentary on why you have chosen these particular media to use. Highlight the pros (and cons, if there are any?) of using these to create your work.
